Dawn's golden eye glints down on the Put-in-Bay village marina on South Bass Island and silhouettes the 352-foot-tall Perry's Victory and International Peace Memorial commemorating Oliver Hazard Perry's Victory over the British in the War of 1812. After winning the famous Battle of Lake Erie, Perry sent his famous message, "We have met the enemy and they are ours ..."
